Free Clinic Appreciation Month Spotlight: Good Neighbor House

2025 Free Clinic of the Year

The Charitable Healthcare Network (CHN) is proud to recognize Good Neighbor House (GNH) as the 2025 Free Clinic of the Year for their commitment to compassionate, high-quality care for underserved and uninsured individuals in the Greater Dayton area.

For over 30 years, Good Neighbor House has served as an essential part of community health, empowering individuals to live healthier with support that addresses physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. The clinic offers a wide range of services, including medical, dental, and vision care, counseling, nutrition support, physical therapy, a pharmacy program, and a community food pantry.

“Some of our favorite moments are when we’re able to give our dental patients their smile back,” shared Michelle Collier, Executive Director of Good Neighbor House. “Seeing someone look in the mirror after treatment, sometimes for the first time in years, and watching their confidence shift reminds us how meaningful our work is.”

Over the past year, Good Neighbor House has continued to grow and meet rising community needs. In 2025, the clinic set out to expand dental services, a goal it achieved by hiring a second dentist. The addition allowed the clinic to shorten waitlists, serve more patients, and offer new services such as on-site crown placement. Dental care is one of many areas where the organization has seen an increased need.

“Our medical clinic has also seen remarkable growth,” said Collier. “We continue to serve uninsured patients by providing primary care and access to life-saving medications at no cost. Many of our patients would otherwise go without due to the rising cost of prescriptions, so being able to fill that gap is something we take great pride in. At Good Neighbor House, no one goes without care.”

Guided by values of trust, inclusion, innovation, and compassion, Good Neighbor House delivers healthcare with dignity and respect. The clinic’s hygiene program emphasizes preventive dental care, which helps patients maintain oral health, prevent gum disease, and avoid tooth loss. The medical team ensures patients have access to free prescriptions, reducing financial strain and helping patients prioritize their health alongside basic needs like housing and food.

“I have worked at Good Neighbor House for three years, and I absolutely love watching us meet the needs of more and more people each year,” shared Courtney Young, Marketing and Communications Director. “It’s amazing to see how much we’ve grown over time. I truly see this as a lifelong career—I couldn’t imagine working anywhere else.”

Good Neighbor House extends its mission beyond clinical care. Its community food pantry operates Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., providing access to healthy food and basic necessities. Healthcare appointments, including dental, medical, counseling, and eye care, are available by calling 937-224-3442.

Every service reflects GNH’s mission to empower healthier communities through trust, innovation, inclusivity, compassion, competence, and collaboration. Their approach ensures patients receive not just essential care, but also the encouragement and tools needed to improve their long-term well-being.

“Our team feels proud and grateful,” Collier explained. “This award acknowledges the commitment and effort everyone puts into delivering high-quality care. It reinforces that the time we spend supporting patients, explaining treatment plans, and ensuring follow-up care truly makes a difference. We hope our story encourages others to invest in accessible, community-based care.”

Stories like Good Neighbor House’s remind us of the meaningful impact free clinics have in restoring hope, improving health, and strengthening entire communities.
